Can it be simple yet effective? An Innovative Approach for Anti-Terror Solutions
Advanced terrorist activity has a potential to cause grave damages outdoors and also indoors. The modern terrorists are trying to find sensitive and attractive locations for their activity that will cause maximal damage to their victims. In this section we will review simple, yet effective solutions against three types of terrorist activity expected to occur: a suicidal human-bomb driving a ramming vehicle; a combined conventional & non-conventional threat; a blast bomb in a public place.
A) Blocking a suicidal human-bomb in a ramming vehicle:
Recently, this threat has become one of the most common threats in the suicidal bombing technique.
Using a vehicle allows the terrorist to carry large amounts of explosives, hence, to create greater damages.
The preventive measures against this threat from the security forces side, derived them to check suspicious vehicles that were found parking in the relevant area. In addition, convoys have been directed to avoid close physical contact with suspicious vehicles that have not been checked or cleared by security forces.
Unfortunately, the terrorists improved their methods and have began to use suicidal members that were driving vehicles, carrying explosives, until the actual explosion moment. This development from the terrorists' side created a new and very dangerous threat, defined as a ramming vehicle heavily loaded with explosives. The only way to avoid such a threat is to physically block the suicidal ramming vehicle, prior to its target.
This modern threat has caused the security forces to take several courses of action. Among the common ones they were securing sidewalks and access roads to sensitive buildings. The security forces also increased the amount of barricades, bollards and physical barriers placed in the areas that needed to be protected.
All these recent protection measures cannot protect against such a threat in a temporary environment, and is in any case, quite expensive.
However, the security division at Mifram, can show us a good example of how a relatively simple solution, can create a unique, efficient, non-expensive protection against a suicidal ramming vehicle.
The relevant product that gives the solution against this threat is the MVB (modular vehicle barrier).
The MVB is a physical portable barrier manufactured and produced under a patented design.

B) Blocking a combined conventional & non-conventional threat:
In this modern age, it is only a matter of time until the terrorist will manage to execute an effective chemical event.
In our opinion, the public awareness and also the security forces are not prepared against a combined event.
It is simple to understand when you imagine the protecting measurements against a chemical threat.
These are not bulletproof measurements. This lack will prevent controlling or protecting the command post against a combined terrorist event including conventional and non-conventional threats.
In addition, the current non-conventional protective measures are not long-lasting and the average bio-chemical suit last less than 30 minutes in the field.

This situation requires the creation of a safety-pit that could absorb the blast of a bomb. Moreover, in public places - such as: bus or train stations, restaurants, cinemas, malls and more - the local trash cans can be used as blast enhancers, creating higher damage due to the sheer effect.
This danger led Mifram to design and create the "MERCURY".
